It was a morning where fun, passion and family bonding won over the intense summer heat as a record number 174 kids with family in tow, trooped to the Alaska Ironkids Aquathlon at the Village Sports Club in Paranaque in the morning of Sunday, May 1.

Up from the original 150 slots, the record number of participants in the aquathlon series of this junior version of the international triathlon series Ironman, just proves to show that the number of kids trying to embrace a healthy lifestyle thru sports is growing.

The series has it’s “Race and Play” format which allows kids from all abilities to participate – from the ones who are geared up and ready for competitive sports to those who are just starting and would love to try it out for the experience.

A common and notable sight in every Alaska Ironkids event are the parents cheering and supporting their kids’ growing to a healthy lifestyle as opposed to a lot of kids today who spend a lot of time on their iPads or playstations. The finish line is packed by cheerers and well-wishers egging the kids to sprint to their well-deserved finish.

These happy kid athletes went home with their finisher’s medal, shirt, goodies from Alaska Milk Corporation and a proud story of their morning’s race and play experience.

Alaska IronKids Philippines is an annual sporting event that aims to promote the healthy and active lifestyle among children through the winning combination of proper nutrition and physical activity.
